We offer comprehensive liquid and gas permeation testing for polymers, seals, and other materials used in the oil and gas industry. Our tests measure how materials allow liquids and gases to pass through, ensuring their safety and durability.

Liquid Permeation Testing

Our liquid permeation tests cover a variety of fluids including water, oil, solvents, brines, and alcohol mixtures. We test hoses, tubes, pipes, rubber sheets and flat components at high temperatures and high pressures. Our methods comply with standards like ASTM E96, ASTM D814, ISO 6179, ISO 8308, ISO 2528, and SAE J2665.

Gas Permeation Testing

We test materials against gases like Oxygen (O2), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Ethane (C2H6), Nitrogen (N2), and Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) at temperatures from low to high temperatures and high pressure. Our gas permeation tests adhere to standards such as ASTM D1434, ISO 2556, ISO 4080, ISO 15105, ISO 2782, ASTM F1307, ASTM F1927, and API 17J. We can also create custom setups for specific needs, particularly for O-rings and sealing elements.

Hydrogen Permeation Testing

The gas-phase osmosis method was used to detect the permeation flow curve of hydrogen permeating from the high-pressure side to the low-pressure side of the flat sample at medium and high temperature. From the shape, strength and other properties of the curve, the hydrogen diffusion coefficient, permeability coefficient, activation energy and the interaction between hydrogen and the material were analyzed.

We also specialize in hydrogen permeation testing, crucial for the growing hydrogen energy sector. Our tests provide insights into how hydrogen affects materials, especially under high-pressure and temperature cycles. We follow standards including ASTM D1434, ISO 23936, and ISO 2782, and can integrate multiple testing methods into one program.

Testing Methods

  1. Differential Pressure Method: This method involves creating a pressure difference across the material and measuring how much gas passes through. It's ideal for general gas permeability tests and provides comprehensive data on permeability, diffusion, and solubility coefficients.
  2. Equal Pressure Method: This method maintains equal pressure on both sides of the material but with different gas concentrations. It's commonly used for oxygen permeability tests and is suitable for high-permeability materials.
  3. Customized method based on your specific applications. We use ultra-high vacuum, which can reach 10-7Pa. On the one hand, it can reduce the background signal and realize the test of low permeation materials; on the other hand, it can prevent the surface of the sample from being oxidized at high temperature. Using a high-precision quadrupole mass spectrometer and supporting computer software to dynamically measure and record gas or liquid signal data, it can record one data every 0.2s to ensure the stability, sensitivity and accuracy of the test.

Our selection of instruments ensures precise and reliable results, meeting the highest industry standards for permeability testing. Contact us today to learn more about our comprehensive testing services and how we can support your business needs.
